Cashes Rivers

Born from the unused baby name of a friend, Cashes Rivers didn’t take long to grow up in Des Moines, Iowa. After only three local shows there was enough buzz over his ambitious first EP, The Trees Will Clap For Us, that Cashes Rivers was invited to play 2009’s Gross Domestic Product and share the stage with touring acts such as The Academy Is…, The Morning Benders, Miniature Tigers, The Annuals, local favorites The Envy Corps and The Nada’s. Cashes Rivers’ attention grabbing sound is crafted by singer songwriter Matthew Garcia who pulls from his family’s abject past and community’s warm embrace to form exuberantly life affirming songs with a keen sense of the realities and pitfalls of that life affirmed. The band’s multi-instrumental indie folk, which often touts a full brass and string section, takes the home grown approach of Neutral Milk Hotel, the bombast of Band of Horses, and the summer fun of Pavement. Currently, Cashes Rivers is working with the Des Moines Music Coalition to increase the awareness of Midwest music, which included the playing 80/35 music festival held this year with Spoon, Yo La Tengo and Modest Mouse. Last year the band signed with local do-gooders Aqui Estamos Records. Along with playing shows and attending college for respiratory therapy, singer Matt is newly married and the couple plans on touring together extensively. Cashes Rivers will release their self-titled debut album on October 26, 2010 and is looking forward to playing a city near you!

We choose our battles with the intent of a legacy.

With the intent of a victory, I walked calmly down the isle.

The breathless chant offered by family, friends and strangers

filled the columns.

I inhaled their thoughts and envies …

… They are now more apart of me then they know.

I look to the ceiling for divine guidance, but I only see the patters of a pane window and discolored wallpaper.

The nervous shutter over my skin feels like spiders. They hatched from their cocoon; I could only bind them for so long.

We walks as one entity, breathe as one.                               We are separate from the earth, the same as our cells are separate from us.

We are apart of our earth, the same as our cells are apart of us.

I am apart of you.

We meet eye to eye in front of the stage;

we breath together

… and then disappear;

Start

Feverishly simplistic, I take your interests and turn them against you                                                                          I am as simple as indifferent gets

you never took time to express yourself, The pavement is colder then it looks, it soaks in its surroundings,

Our atmosphere is lacking the warmth needed for a futuristic paradise,                                 one promised from heaven

is yet to be seen.

We look upon others with an air of authority, but we own nothing and our owed nothing

In a simplistic life every decision is drastic.

                                                        I can’t remember …

what it feels like to finish something that was started (…)

Progress; an optimistic view of my failures (…)

First Day Off/ Local Band, Local Beer Night

Maria and I took advantage on our day off on thursday night and had a nice dinner along with a rickshaw ride! Here in Raleigh they work off of tips, we got a tour of downtown! Then we went to local pub Tir Na Nog and met up with the guys while experiencing the cities Local Band, Local Beer night. It’s a great idea for the city of Raleigh, the band gets a cut of the bar so that the show can be free. There are 4 beers available by a local brewery at discount prices and other main stream beers are available at the bar along with other drinks. It was obviously a place you had to be on thursday night. 3 local bands played all were solid, though maria and I left early, the environment was simple, clean, a buzz with fun and rocking!

This morning we met the guys at Shannons house and spent the day preparing for our show in Greensboro tonight with Lake Isle, his peddle board is mind blowing! Sweet. Its interesting playing places out of town away from our safe home, always a guess if people will like the music, we will see. Looking forward to our day show at Slims and ending our tour with the Love Language!

We made it to our first venue in Nashville the french quarter cafe, Jazz band played at 7pm that was interesting to see, im not a big fan but got to watch a sweet movie with the wife. Good news Luke got his iPhone back by traveling through a storm drain tunnel and 55 ft later he found his phone. NICE!

We are gonna drive to Birmingham tonight then find a hotel to get some sleep before our next show.

Maria and I are watching movies in the back of the van as the adults drive.

Here are some photos of luke crawling through the tunnel to get his iphone, he had to kill spiders and large bugs with stones he found in the tunnel, very Indiana Jones of You! Listen Like Thieves is great! Nice falsetto!

Start of Tour

We left Des Moines, IA at 6pm last night. We drove all 11 hours until we made it to Nashville TN. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much happening that is exciting. Lukas accidentally dropped his new Iphone in a storm drain and we couldn’t get it out we spent 2 hours trying to tie a magnet to a rope and get it out, we then turned to duck tape… no hope. It was sad to drive away, I think we could of eventually retrieved the rebel phone by asking a homeless person to get it for us, but… if he got stuck and died, that also would ruin the tour. So, we found a panera and a apple store, and i cant find a outlet anywhere to charge my phone or computer… im at 54%… daunting…. We got a show tonight at 10, looking forward to getting some stress out, once the phone is charged again ill upload some pics to twitter.

If you find a Iphone…

Here is a interesting song on the record, i had this one in the vault for a while, i remember writing the main melody on piano ( I suck at piano ) but couldn’t figure out where else to go with it. The day we had to record the vocals i finished writing the lyrics.

I think its about a child like adventure, but in this world unfortunately those dont exist. So its about attempting a child like adventure. I don’t think I had any adventures when i was a child.

Here are some lyrics… You go figure it out.

Man Made of Mud

Man made of mud why do you have to cry so much? Cause soon your gonna be a man made of dust

with each foolish step our spirt left mothers a rose bed i heard she went and drank herself to death

A sacrifice is never complete in till the mountains smile meets it peak oh we are gonna need another human being

I Just want to get home, to get home before the folks

My hope it dont do much but remind me what i lack the most

If were not enough, Well, we will offer up our only sons and with our love, we give them up

To the lives we could of had and the lives we want they will capture us and with this dream i was swallowed up

I Just want to get home to get home before the folks

I dont want to estimate your time with me

My hope it dont do much but remind me what i lack the most

With the New record dropping soon how about some lyrics to the new songs Here is the lyrics for the song “Tracks”. If you want some Idea what its about, ask and you will get answers.. Maybe…

Tracks

Our wooden homes we coveted burned down today

so ill pick it up and ive learned to deal with things that i haven’t delt with enough.

Its our simple clothing and our hairless bodies, its this lifestyle its full of loathing,

to touch your skin and feel alive again, to touch your skin and feel warmth again

I heard your favorite noise is that of approaching trains, you need a new hobby, such

tracks lead to jewelry, but when your young that pains seems adventurous, when your young that pain seems victorious

Its these little thing, that remind me im still the same

Its these little things, that remind me i haven’t changed.

I heard the chimneys lead to a better place so lets smoke them out till our dreams fall to the ground. Till the ash becomes part of our lungs.

i heard your favorite dream is that of approaching flames you mean the end of us, or the end of what they know of us cause in the end we’ll form a better dust.

We are not this kind of love where i teach you to grow up.

Its these little thing, that remind me im still the same

Its these little things, that remind me i haven’t changed.

Took me and Maria a Few hours last night to put together the Pre-Order boxes. I might run out of things to draw but so far this is one of my favorites.
